What Is Steam Next Fest? A Quick Guide to Steam’s Free Demo Week

TL;DR: Steam Next Fest is a week-long event where hundreds of upcoming PC games release free demos you can play right now. The October 2026 edition runs October 19 to 26, starting 1AM Tuesday (Oct 20) Philippine time. Libre, walang catch, and it’s one of the best ways to find your next favorite game before you spend a single peso.

Kung na-curious ka na sa “Next Fest” banner sa Steam pero hindi mo pa natry, here’s what it is and why it’s worth your time.

So, what is Steam Next Fest?

Think of it as a big online game expo, pero sa bahay ka lang. Valve runs it three times a year, in February, June, and October. For one week, developers put up playable demos of games that aren’t out yet. They also run livestreams on their store pages and chat with players about what they’re building.

It started back in 2019 as the Steam Game Festival, a small tie-in with The Game Awards that only had a handful of demos. Valve renamed it Steam Next Fest in 2021 to make the focus clear: upcoming games. Ngayon, it’s huge. The February 2026 edition had over 3,500 demos, according to industry tracker GameDiscoverCo.

Most of the games are indies, but bigger studios join too. Every game can only take part in one Next Fest ever, so each edition is a fresh batch.

Why should Pinoy gamers care?

1. It’s free. Walang bayad ang demos. You just need a Steam account and some storage space.

2. Try before you buy. Games aren’t cheap, lalo na kung nag-iipon ka lang from your allowance or sweldo. A demo tells you way more than a trailer ever will. If it doesn’t click, you’ve lost nothing.

3. Test your rig. This one’s big for us. Not everyone has a high-end PC, and plenty of us game on budget laptops. A demo is the easiest way to check if a game runs well on your setup before it launches, instead of finding out after you’ve paid.

4. Find hidden gems early. Some of the best indie games got their first push from Next Fest. Inscryption, for example, was one of the standout demos of the October 2021 edition before it became a hit.

5. Your feedback actually matters. These games are still in development. Many demos link to a feedback form or Discord, and devs read it. Kung may bug ka nakita or may suggestion ka, this is your chance to shape the final game.

6. Watch devs live. A lot of studios stream gameplay and answer questions during the fest. It’s a cool look at how games get made.

Tips para sulit ang Next Fest

  • Play early. Some demos get pulled once the fest ends on October 26. Valve encourages devs to keep them up, but not everyone does, so if a demo caught your eye, play it this week.
  • Wishlist what you like. It helps the devs, especially small teams, and Steam will notify you when the game launches or goes on sale.
  • Use the genre tabs. With hundreds of demos, browsing by genre saves you a lot of scrolling.
  • Rate the demos. A thumbs up or down helps Steam recommend better demos for you.
  • Watch your storage. Some demos are big downloads. Uninstall the ones you’re done with.

Where to start

We’ve already covered a few Next Fest titles that are worth a try: the turn-based puzzle roguelike KAREI, the zombie FPS Disbond, and the survival crafting game Never Wither. Good starting points kung hindi mo alam kung saan magsisimula.

The next edition after this one runs in February 2027, so make this week count.

Ikaw, mga ka-PGN? Ano’ng demos ang nasa list mo this week? Share your finds in the comments para may bago kaming matry.
