Never Wither Lets You Turn Into Almost Any Creature, and Its Demo Lands at Steam Next Fest

TL;DR: Never Wither is an open-world survival crafting ARPG from Geo Seed Games, published by Luckycalf. It’s bringing a demo to Steam Next Fest, which runs October 19–26 (starting October 20, 1:00 AM PHT). The demo has 19 creatures to find and 4 bosses to fight, and you can drag your barkada along in co-op.

Survival crafting games aren’t exactly rare these days. Every few months may bagong “Palworld-like” na lumalabas sa Steam. But Never Wither has a twist that made us look twice: you don’t just catch creatures here, you become them.

See it, become it

You play as a Gardener, someone with the power to purify creatures corrupted by a darkness spreading from the World Tree. Once you’ve purified a creature, you can possess it and fight using its skills. The developers say almost any creature in the game can be possessed, from ooze-type monsters to swift Wolf Warriors to stone giants that rip up trees as weapons. There’s even a Mudball creature that turns into farmland. Medyo random, pero ang cute ng idea.

That changes how boss fights work too. Instead of relying on just your own character’s kit, you’re swapping into whichever creature fits the fight. You can also fuse abilities from different creatures to build a stronger team of companions, and keep an eye out for rare variants with unique looks or traits.

Your creatures do the chores

Like most games in the genre, you’ll gather resources, build a base, and grow it into a proper settlement. The difference is that your companions handle a lot of the grunt work: gathering, hauling, farming, and defending your home. Some of them can even transform into buildings. Sa wakas, a survival game where hindi ikaw lahat ang gagawa.

The world itself is the continent of Edda, with river valleys, windswept plateaus, frozen fields, and volcanic wastelands to explore.

Built for the barkada

You can go solo, but co-op is where this one could shine. You can invite friends into your world, form clans on official servers, and fight other clans over territory.

Watch the new gameplay trailer to see co-op in action.

Private servers with your own rules are also an option. For those of us who grew up on the old Pinoy MMORPG scene, that clan-war setup brings back memories. Steam even tags it as an MMORPG.

Check your specs first

Before you get too excited, look at your rig. Minimum specs call for a GTX 1060 or RX 580, an i5-8400 or Ryzen 3 3300X, and 16GB of RAM. Recommended goes up to an RTX 3060 and 24GB of RAM. Medyo mabigat yan for a lot of budget builds, so the demo is the perfect chance to test it before you commit.

Quick facts:

  • Developer: Geo Seed Games
  • Publisher: Luckycalf
  • Platform: PC (Steam)
  • Demo: 19 creatures, 4 bosses
  • Modes: Single-player, online co-op, online PvP
  • Release date: Coming soon

One more note: the Steam page discloses that some store images started as AI-generated concept art that artists then reworked by hand. Some players care about that, so it’s good to know going in.

Steam Next Fest is free, so there’s no downside to trying it. If the possession mechanic holds up, Never Wither could be one of the more interesting demos this fest. Wishlist it now, then try it with your squad on October 20. G?
