Fans of Mortal Kombat II may finally be getting the sequel they have been waiting for. Early reactions to the upcoming film have started appearing online, and so far, many viewers are calling it a major improvement over the first movie.
According to reactions shared by viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel reportedly delivers bigger action sequences, stronger storytelling, and the over-the-top violence that Mortal Kombat fans honestly expect from the franchise. One fan described the film as:
“a love letter to MK fans” while another simply declared: “FLAWLESS VICTORY!!”
And honestly, kapag Mortal Kombat fan ka, medyo yan talaga yung gusto mong marinig.
One of the biggest highlights being discussed is the film’s expanded world-building. Director Simon McQuoid explained that the production team wanted to create a more immersive Mortal Kombat universe this time around, especially after the first movie faced criticism for feeling somewhat limited in scale.
Producer Todd Garner revealed that the sequel was finally able to explore multiple realms and iconic locations from the games, something the team reportedly could not fully achieve in the previous film.
For longtime Mortal Kombat players, malaking bagay yan.
The games themselves have always been known for their bizarre and memorable arenas, and it seems the sequel is leaning heavily into that identity. Production designer Yohei Taneda, whose previous works include Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and The Hateful Eight, helped create several fantasy-inspired worlds for the movie.
Among the locations reportedly featured are Edenia, Netherrealm, The Pit, Deadpool, and the Sky Temple — arenas and realms that many Mortal Kombat fans will instantly recognize. Taneda explained that he wanted each realm to feel visually distinct, combining different artistic influences while still respecting the source material from the games.
The sequel also introduces Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, and early reactions suggest that fans are already loving the casting choice. Several viewers specifically mentioned Urban’s performance as one of the movie’s standout additions.

Honestly, bagay din naman siya sa role. Johnny Cage has always needed that combination of arrogance, humor, and action-star energy — something Karl Urban can probably deliver habang nambabato ng one-liners bago mang-uppercut.
The movie’s roster also includes returning characters and actors such as Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden. Meanwhile, Martyn Ford will portray the iconic Shao Kahn, one of the franchise’s most recognizable villains.
Pinoy Gaming’s Quick Non-Spoiler Reactions
Some of the Pinoy Gaming peeps were also able to catch the movie early, and honestly, medyo ramdam namin na mas confident na yung sequel compared to the first film.
Without going into full spoiler territory, maraming moments sa movie na siguradong magpapasigaw ng:
“AYOOO LUMABAS SIYA!”

Fans of the games will probably appreciate how the movie leans harder into the darker supernatural side of Mortal Kombat lore, especially involving Quan Chi, corrupted warriors, and the whole resurrection angle na sobrang iconic sa franchise.
There are also several major character transformations and returns that longtime MK fans will immediately recognize, including moments involving Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and some surprisingly intense power reveals during the later parts of the film.
One standout sequence involves a massive confrontation against Shao Kahn that initially feels hopeless for Earthrealm’s fighters. The movie clearly wanted Shao Kahn to feel terrifying this time around — hindi lang siya malaking kontrabida na puro sigaw. Ramdam mong final boss energy talaga.
Fans of Kitana will also likely enjoy some of the later action scenes because the film gives her far more presence and importance compared to what many viewers were expecting.
And of course, yes — the movie absolutely embraces the chaos, brutality, and “video game logic” that Mortal Kombat is known for.
Minsan ridiculous. Minsan sobrang violent. Pero honestly? Yun naman talaga ang Mortal Kombat.
A Sequel That Finally Feels Like Mortal Kombat
Industry reviewers are also responding positively. MovieWeb described the sequel as a “marked improvement” over the original film and praised its commitment to embracing the franchise’s identity rather than trying to distance itself from the games. Collider meanwhile called the movie a “bloody good time and a bone-crunching spectacle.”
Which honestly sounds exactly like a Mortal Kombat movie should.
After all, nobody watches Mortal Kombat expecting subtle emotional drama and peaceful conflict resolution. Gusto ng fans brutal fights, ridiculous fatalities, iconic characters, and pure chaotic energy.
And based on the early reactions so far, Mortal Kombat II might finally be giving fans exactly that.
Mortal Kombat II is now showing in cinemas and IMAX.
