Aion 2 Is Now Free-to-Play Worldwide: Time to Spread Those Wings, Daevas

TL;DR: NC’s Aion 2 is now live globally on PC as a free-to-play game. It had a huge early-access run. Pinoy players will most likely be playing on the Japan server.

If you grew up in the computer shop era, back when everyone’s afternoons went to Ragnarok, RF Online, and MU Online, this one’s for you. A big new MMORPG just opened its gates, and it’s free. Aion 2’s worldwide free-to-play launch landed on Monday, October 5, 2026, on Steam and PURPLE, covering North America, South America, Europe and Asia. In other words, you can download it and play right now without paying anything.

The launch numbers are big

Founder’s Pack buyers didn’t wait for launch day. They got five days of early access from September 30 to October 4, and the crowd turned out in force. SteamDB recorded a peak of 171,530 concurrent players on Steam. That number doesn’t even include NC’s own launcher. On its first day of early access, the game hit No. 1 on Steam’s global Top Sellers chart by revenue and topped the charts in 12 countries. Steam wishlists had already passed 1.3 million before release.

Those are serious numbers for a brand-new MMO in 2026, a genre a lot of people had already written off.

What’s the game about?

If you never played the first Aion, here’s the quick version. You play a winged warrior called a Daeva, and you’re caught in an endless war between two factions. The launch trailer highlights free flight, aerial combat, the Elyos-versus-Asmodians conflict, and both PvE and PvP content. The flying is the main draw: you don’t just run around the map, you fight in the air too.

Which server should Pinoy players pick?

This is the important part for us. Servers are split across four regions: North America, South America, Europe, and Japan for Asia. The game supports eight languages, including English. Japan is the closest to the Philippines, so it should give the best ping for most of us. Still, test your connection first before your whole guild commits.

Choose carefully. Steam and PURPLE players share the same servers, but the regional servers are separate from each other. If you pick a different region from your friends, you won’t be playing together. Agree on a region with your group chat first.

Sorry, mobile-only players

There’s no mobile version in this release. The Korean and Taiwanese versions run on both PC and mobile, but the global release is PC-only for now. NC hasn’t said anything about a global mobile version yet, so if you only have a phone, you’ll have to wait.

Expect queues this week

Launch week for a free MMO is almost always chaotic. NC already ran maintenance before the full global population even arrived, so expect queue times or some instability. Patience is part of the experience, just like the old days.

For context, the game is slightly late. It missed its originally announced September window when NC confirmed the October 5 date at gamescom 2026. Since it’s free, though, a one-week delay is easy to forgive.

Should you try it?

Since it costs nothing, the only real cost is your free time (and maybe your sleep). If you miss the computer shop days with your barkada, this might be the closest thing to it this year.
