ATI’s next flagship GPU and the first DirectX 11 capable chip is about to arrive this October.

RV870 is the next flagship GPU of ATI which incorporates DirectX 11 capabilities. ATI hopes to release this chip by the time Microsoft unveil Windows 7 which has support for DirectX 11 API.

Codenamed Cypress, this GPU is expected to be named HD5870 if we follow ATI’s way in naming its products. Cypress will be followed immediately by Juniper which has a little bit slower performance.

Nvidia is expected to follow with its G300 series of cards soon which will give ATI a challenging competion that will force them to lower their prices for the new cards.

So what’s our advice for your next graphics card? Save! haha. Okay we advice that you save your money for your next video card update until this new series of DirectX 11 cards arrived.

Sa pasko kapatid inaasahan naming magiging maganda ang mga bagong video cards na lalabas sa market. Kasabay din nito ang mga bagong games na susubok sa kakayahan ng DirectX 11.

Nvidia will refresh its GT200 lineup with new GPUs capable of DirectX 10.1 instruction.

Recent ATI Radeon GPUs already support DirectX 10.1 since 2007 but Nvidia has become reluctant and didn’t bother to upgrade their chipsets past DX10.

According to tech insiders, Nvidia will release its new 40nm GPUs this coming September and might be branded as GT210 and GT220 however Nvidia hasn’t released an official statement about this.

Later this year or probably early 2010, Nvidia is scheduled to introduced GT300 with DX11 support while ATI will release their new flagship DX11 GPUs alongside the release of Windows 7 on October 22, 2009.

Both Nvidia and ATI is in a tight race on releasing the first card to support DX11 and so far it seems ATI will win this round.

DirectX 11 is the next graphics api that Windows 7 will introduce to market.

Its not yet out nor official but Guru3D already recieved an engineering sample of the first 40nm graphics core from AMD/ATI.

Hilbert Hagedoorn of Guru3D published an article about the soon to be announced RV740 graphics card. He even made a benchmark and compared it to HD4850 and HD4830. According to Hilbert, RV740′s performance sits between HD4850 and HD4830.

The sample Guru3D previewed “houses 640 stream processors, 32 texture memory units (TMUs) and 16 render output units (abbreviated as ROPs). As stated, It features a 128-bit wide bus using GDDR5 memory, bumping up bandwidth that rivals equally clocked GDDR3 with double the bus width.” according to Hilbert.

So far HD4670 is around PHP4,900.00 while HD4830 is around PHP6,800.00.

$1 = PHP48.00

ATI Radeon HD 4890 will be slated this April. The new chip will be based on RV790 core and has 850MHz core clock and 900MHz memory clock. This higher clock speed is expected to give the new GPU to perform 25-30% higher than HD 4870 matching the performance given by Geforce GTX 285.

Two editions of HD 4890 is expected to be released this April, the standard edition and the OC edition. Suggested price for this card is US$199 to US$249.

A rumor is circulating across the net saying that NVIDIA will release a single dual GPU graphics card that will compete against the current fastest single dual GPU graphics card of AMD/ATI.

It is rumored that NVIDIA may release an X2 card sometime January 2009. It will be based on GTX 200, perhaps a GTX 260 Core 216 which proves faster in SLI mode than Radeon 4870 X2 on most games. No one knows yet the exact chip to be used but we’re sure its a chip that can once and for all win them back the performance crown they held for years. Also expected is a fabrication process shrink to 40nm.

Although NVIDIA has the fastest single GPU graphics card on the planet namely the GTX 280 released last June, they lost the performance crown to AMD/ATI’s Radeon 4700 x2 which garnered lots of commendations.

Dual GPU graphics cards are actually 2 GPU chips on a single PCB (board). They were created to further boost the performance of graphics processing without the hassle of buying an extra card to enable SLI or Crossfire on costlier motherboards thereby saving money.
